Non-Metallic Bearing Solutions
Self-lubricating polymer bearings for wet, corrosive, and lightweight applications.
Engineering plastic sliding bushings are polymer bearings designed for applications where conventional metal bearings may be unsuitable. Depending on the material and operating conditions, they can provide low friction, corrosion resistance, lightweight construction, and reduced lubrication requirements.
Unlike rolling-element bearings, sliding bushings have no balls or rollers. The shaft moves directly against the polymer bearing surface.
EKB supplies engineering plastic sliding bushings for industrial equipment, wet or corrosive environments, and applications where low maintenance or lightweight components are important.
| Low Lubrication Requirements Designed to operate without added grease or oil under suitable conditions. |
| Corrosion Resistance Suitable for wet, humid, and selected chemical environments. |
| Lightweight Construction Lower weight than many metal bushing materials. |
| Low Friction Polymer sliding surfaces provide smooth movement. |
| Quiet Operation Suitable for applications where reduced operating noise is desirable. |
| Custom Options Different materials, dimensions, and configurations can be supplied according to application requirements. |
| Material | Best Suited For |
|---|---|
| POM / Acetal | General-purpose low-friction and wear-resistant applications |
| PTFE-Based Materials | Applications where low friction and chemical resistance are important |
| Filled Nylon | Lightweight option for selected industrial applications |
| High-Performance Plastics (e.g. PEEK) | More demanding temperature or chemical environments |
Material selection depends on load, speed, temperature, shaft material, environment, and other operating conditions.
Engineering plastic sliding bushings are commonly considered for:
| Water & washdown equipment Corrosion-sensitive machinery Food & processing equipment Agricultural equipment | Lightweight mechanical systems Limited lubrication access Industrial automation Selected medical & lab equipment |
Plastic sliding bushings and metal rolling bearings are designed for different applications.
Plastic bushings are often preferred when corrosion resistance, low maintenance, lightweight construction, or simple sliding motion is more important than maximum speed or load capacity.
Rolling bearings are generally more suitable when high rotational speed, higher load capacity, or precise rolling motion is required.
The correct choice depends on the actual working conditions.
